If you've finished all the latest games in The Legends of Zelda, then you might be looking for something new to try. While there's no word on a new Zelda game yet, there are at least some upcoming games with similar vibes and gameplay mechanics, as well as looks that call back to older titles, including a new RPG on Switch 2.
With Zelda's 40th Anniversary this year, there's hopefully going to be many ways to celebrate Nintendo's long-running franchise. And even if we miss out on those Twilight Princess and Wind Waker remasters on Switch 2 (hopefully we won't), there are some other games out there that should scratch that itch. One of these is The Adventures Of Eilliot: The Millennium Tales, a new original HD-2D RPG from Square Enix.
The Adventures Of Elliot Will Scratch Your Zelda Itch
Elliot and Faie explore the wilds in The Adventures of Elliot - The Millennium Tales artwork.
The Adventures of Elliot should help hold you over until a new Zelda game arrives. The action RPG has combat that feels similar enough, and its fantasy world, solo protagonist, and fairy companion all gave distinctly Legend of Zelda vibes. The real-time combat, which can use up to seven weapons in the full game, also feel a lot more like Link hacking and slashing than other RPGs from Square Enix.
It's a bit like early Mana games with the art style of Octopath Traveler, which is honestly a pretty cool combo. Although The Adventures of Elliot doesn't feel like a Zelda clone, there's plenty of similar DNA that should appeal to fans of Nintendo's franchise. In other words, it should appeal to Zelda fans while still feeling like its own thing.
A Free Demo Is Available Ahead Of Launch
Elliot walks through the streets in The Adventures of Elliot The Millennium Tales.
Although The Adventures of Elliot doesn't release until June, you can play a free demo now. It's available from Nintendo's eShop, and you can easily download it on your Switch 2 console. Sadly, the data from the demo won't carry over into the full game the way some of Square Enix's games, like the great Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, have in the past.
Still, if you're hesitant to pay for a new IP without giving it a try first, the demo is a great way to do that. It's a fairly quick demo — only about an hour or two — but it will give you a taste of what to expect in the retail version. You'll get to see what gameplay, combat, and a boss fight are all like.

With the free demo out now, you can try it risk-free, but we think you'll really enjoy it. The RPG is out on Switch 2 on June 18, 2026.
