Propertymark has announced the launch of a new independent Regulatory Board, which formally separates its regulatory responsibilities from its representative role in a move aimed at strengthening professionalism and public trust across the sector.

He says: “The introduction of Propertymark’s new Regulatory Board is the next significant step in our journey to strengthen professionalism and public trust in the sector,” he says.

Independent leadership
Melanie Carter, Chair, Propertymark Regulatory Board
The Board will be chaired by Melanie Carter, Partner and Head of Regulation at Stone King LLP, who brings senior regulatory experience and more than 20 years’ service as a judge and is recognised in the Legal 500 Hall of Fame for professional discipline.
Carter says: “Independence on the Regulatory Board strengthens confidence in Propertymark’s standards and regulatory processes and makes clear that the public interest comes first.
“This new structure reinforces consumer protection and demonstrates a clear commitment to professionalism across property agencies, in line with other professional sectors.”
Alongside independent members, Propertymark is inviting agents to take part as voluntary Co-opted Professional Members, providing advisory and scrutiny input to support the Board’s work. Applications for both independent Board roles and co-opted representatives close on 27 February 2026.
