Released last summer, James Gunn's Superman marked Corenswet's DCU debut, and his performance as the legendary superhero was widely celebrated. Now, he's poised to star in something very different.
Per Deadline, Corenswet's next movie, an untitled Paramount film, will hit theaters on December 25, 2026. The film will chronicle the true story of American football player John Tuggle, who became known as "Mr. Irrelevant" after being drafted to the New York Giants in 1983 as the last player chosen in the last round. Tuggle's drafting ended up having a profound impact on his team and on football culture.
The untitled John Tuggle film, which hails from filmmaker Jonathan Levine, shares the Christmas Day release date with Werwulf, Robert Eggers' follow-up to Nosferatu (2024). The dating of this new Corenswet film pushes Paramount's domestic release count for the year up to 13.

On top of directing, Levine will also produce the Tuggle film with Gillian Bohrer and Nick Santora. Starring alongside Coresnwet are Michael Shannon (Man of Steel) and Isabel May (1883).
Paramount has also dated two other films. The Rescue from director Potsy Ponciroli (Motor City) will hit theaters on January 29, 2027, and Get Lite, the directorial debut of One Battle After Another's Teyana Taylor will release on April 9, 2027. So far, the studio has nine films dated for next year, including an untitled horror movie event on July 16.
This new December release date for the Tuggle film puts it about six months after Supergirl hits theaters on June 26. Starring Milly Alcock and directed by Craig Gillespie, the upcoming DCU film is confirmed to feature Corenswet returning as Superman, with Eve Ridley, Matthias Schoenaerts, David Krumholtz also starring. In addition, Jason Momoa will make his debut as Lobo in the film.

On top of Werwulf, the final month of 2026 sees the release of Avengers: Doomsday from Disney and Dune: Part Three from Warner Bros. Legendary. These two films are both currently scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, though it remains a possibility that one moves to avoid competition.
With a release date now set for December, marketing for the untitled John Tuggle film should kick into gear this summer and fall. Though the film won't be as anticipated as Supergirl, Corenswet is evidently open to a diverse range of projects outside of his Superman commitments.
