Too little too late. That is the story for Michigan State basketball, who suffered an upset at the hands of Minnesota on Wednesday night, 76-73.
Another horrific start for the Spartans ultimately cost them in this one, with the Golden Gophers jumping out to a 12-3 lead early, that turned into a 32-21 deficit at the half for MSU. Late, the Spartans trailed 67-53, but a 20-9 run got the team back into the game, but not with enough time to make it matter.

At one point in the second half, the team pulled the game within 5, 45-40, but an unnecessary dead ball technical by Jeremy Fears sparked an 16-7 run for the host's, expanding the lead to 14. MSU could not overcome that advantage.
Leading the way for MSU was Coen Carr with 16 points. Jordan Scott (15 points), Trey Fort (12 points) and Jeremy Fears (10 points) also finished in double figures.
Spartans will be back in action on Saturday for a matchup with No. 5 Illinois at 8 p.m. inside of the Breslin Center.
