OXFORD — Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin's potential future at LSU or Florida is the subject of hot debate.

The leaders on the Rebels roster are doing their best to keep the rumors from encroaching into the locker room.

The No. 6 Rebels (10-1, 6-1 SEC) are preparing for the Egg Bowl. Ole Miss plays at Mississippi State (5-6, 1-6 SEC) on Nov. 28 (11 a.m. ABC).

Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss put out a statement on social media on Nov. 24. It was addressed to Ole Miss fans, and assured them that the team was locked in for the Egg Bowl. Why did he feel it was important to put out a reassuring statement?

"Just to remind our fanbase that we're focused on Mississippi State," Chambliss said later in the day. "We're not worried about the outside noise or anything going on outside this complex."

Chambliss said a win at MSU would be icing on the cake. It's a win over a rival, and likely a sure ticket to a home CFP game.

On Nov. 24, Kiffin reiterated players in 2025 aren't as worried about the future as players used to be. He has said previously that NIL and the transfer portal make college football a year-to-year business.

Chambliss said he hears the noise — and that it's pretty much everywhere online — but it's easy to ignore.

"It's easy to block it out because we're in the facility," Chambliss said. "We know what's going on, and we're focused on Mississippi State."

Linebacker TJ Dottery is a leader for Ole Miss. He wears the green-dot helmet on the field, which designates him as the player who can receive in-helmet communication during plays.

He said there's plenty for Ole Miss to focus on aside from the Kiffin rumors. Making the CFP would be the first appearance in Ole Miss history.

"Just the opportunity to go 1-0," Dottery said. "If you look at it from the outside, the opportunity we have as a team to be one of the best Ole Miss teams in history. That's huge. Why take that for granted and overlook that?"
