With the 2025 winter high school sports season quickly approaching, the Beaver County Times is winding down its fall sports coverage.

After two weeks of voting and over 353,000 votes cast, it is time to reveal the Times’ 2025 fall sports athletes of the year.

2025 HSFB Coverage: Beaver Valley's ultimate guide to the 2025 high school football season

Note: The Beaver County Times’ boys cross country poll had an error in the poll. The winner will be revealed on Monday, December 1. 

Marching Band

West Allegheny takes the vote for best marching band of the 2025 high school football season, accumulating 9,626 votes and 29% of the total vote. Ambridge finished in second place with 3,184 votes, followed by Central Valley.

Football

Central Valley senior athlete Ethan Shearer is your Beaver County Times’ high school football fan vote player of the year, racking up 34,373 votes, capturing over 78% of the total vote. As a senior, Shearer logged 1,197 yards and 15 touchdowns at running back. On defense, the senior recorded 108 total tackles, 19 tackles for a loss and five sacks.

Boys Soccer

Moon Area’s Will Guarino takes home the boys soccer player of the year award, taking home 42% of the vote, with 7,594 votes cast for the senior goalkeeper. Guarino was a major piece to Moon Area’s success this season, helping the team reach the WPIAL 3A quarterfinals.

Girls Soccer

Freedom Area freshman Sophia Bruce takes home the girls soccer player of the year, posting 6,468 votes. Bruce played a big role in helping Freedom Area reach the postseason.

Girls Volleyball

The most popular poll out of the fall sports, girls volleyball saw almost 200,000 votes cast, with Riverside’s Elliot Hardy taking home player of the year honors. Hardy was an all-section and second team all-WPIAL selection, recording 47,152 votes and over 25% of the total vote.

Boys Cross Country: Winner to be Revealed on December 1

Girls Cross Country

Western Beaver’s Elizabeth Scuicquero had 7,247 votes cast and garnered 27% of the vote.

Boys Golf

After finishing the season as a state finalist, Nico Ward captured 29% of the vote and 5,492 votes cast to his name. The West Allegheny sophomore finished his campaign with a total gross score of 145 at the PIAA championships, finishing sixth overall in the 3A field.

Girls Golf

Central Valley’s Emma Mrkonja took home 53% of the vote (6,744 votes cast) to win girls golfer of the year. The senior narrowly missed out on a strip to the PIAA championships narrowly missing the cut at the WPIAL 2A championships.
