Demon Slayer has raised the bar for anime with its latest film, Infinity Castle, shattering numerous records and becoming a global phenomenon. The film’s breathtaking animation and its intense yet emotional storytelling have effectively captured audiences’ attention around the world, cementing its place as one of the most influential and popular anime to be created.
The film’s success has drawn acclaim from fans and critics alike while proving that anime is no longer a niche interest but a growing, dominant force in the entertainment industry. Now, Infinity Castle has officially been listed as a contender for an Oscar, potentially making it the next anime to win an award.
Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Shattered Worldwide Records
Following its release in China, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle has surged past $730 million in global box office revenue, exceeding every projected expectation and skyrocketing to the top five highest-grossing films of 2025 so far. The film’s popularity drew in massive crowds worldwide, proving to everyone that anime’s influence on mainstream entertainment has become undeniable.

In the U.S., the film broke several major records, including the largest opening weekend for an international and anime film, grossing an estimated $70 million. Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle also dethroned Pokémon: The First Movie as the highest-grossing anime film, with Pokémon holding the title for more than two decades.
Domestically, Infinity Castle had become the fastest film to earn more than 10 billion yen, surpassing the record set by its predecessor, Mugen Train, in just eight days. It also held the highest single-day and weekend opening. This trend was seen across Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East as well, setting top records around the world.
Demon Slayer Could Be the Next Anime To Take Home an Oscar

Anime has a long, yet selective history at the Oscars, with only two films ever taking home the award. Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away made history in 2003 as the first anime to win, followed by another triumph in 2024 with his latest film, The Boy and the Heron. Beyond Miyazaki’s work, Makoto Shinkai’s Suzume had also received a nomination.
Now, Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle has entered the arena, officially standing as an eligible Oscar nominee for 2026, along with Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc. Given Demon Slayer’s massive success, jaw-dropping artistry, and ability to resonate with millions of viewers, the film is positioned as a strong contender for future awards and is deserving of, at least, a nomination.
With Demon Slayer breaking worldwide records and earning critical acclaim, the film has proven that anime’s global impact is stronger than ever. From its storyline to its direction, Infinity Castle is a masterful achievement, making it a serious contender for the 2026 Oscars, possibly joining the ranks of Miyazaki’s legendary works and further cementing anime’s position in mainstream cinema.
