Oregon is sitting comfortably at No. 5 before watching No. 2 Indiana play No. 1 Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship Game on Saturday.

Best case scenario: The CFP selection committee moves the Ducks up a spot on Sunday, giving the program a bye in the first round. Worst case, Oregon will play a home game at Autzen Stadium in the first round.

However, Oregon's success has caused some major turnover for the coaching staff before the CFP.

On Monday, Kentucky hired away offensive coordinator Will Stein to replace Mark Stoops as the head coach of the Wildcats. Stein is expected to coach the Ducks in the CFP.

Defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi has been linked to California since Justin Wilcox was fired on Nov. 23.

Per ESPN's Pete Thamel, Lupoi has agreed in principle to become the next coach of the Golden Bears.

"Sources: Cal has agreed in principle to a 5-year deal to make Tosh Lupoi the school’s next head coach," Thamel posted on X. "The school is expected to announce the deal in the near future."

Thamel did not specify if Lupoi would coach at Oregon though the CFP when Call officially announces the hire.

Lupoi played as a defensive lineman for the Golden Bears from 2000 to 2005. He began his coaching career as a defensive line coach at Cal in 2008.

Lupoi, 44, left California for Washington to become the Huskies defensive line coach in 2012.

Following his stint in Washington, Lupoi spent five years with Alabama, working his way up from defensive analyst to defensive coordinator and outside linebackers coach. He won two national championships as a member of the Crimson Tide.

Lupoi had stops in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns (defensive line coach), Atlanta Falcons (defensive line coach and run game coordinator) and Jacksonville Jaguars (defensive line coach).

Lupoi joined the Ducks in 2022 as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.
