By Anna CommanderShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberFromm Family Foods has issued a recall for 300 cases of Bonnihill Farms BeefiBowls Beef Recipe dog food due to fears the product may be contaminated with plastic.
Newsweek reached out to the company via email on Wednesday night for comment.
...According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) alert: "Dogs ingesting plastic may exhibit symptoms such as vomiting, loss of appetite, lethargy, or stomach discomfort. Plastic, when consumed in large amounts, can lead to serious health issues in dogs, including gastrointestinal upset and a risk of intestinal obstruction. Consumers whose dogs have consumed any of the affected product and are exhibiting these symptoms should contact their veterinarian."
The recall impacts the Bonnihill BeefiBowls Beef Recipe in the 16-ounce per chub weight with a UPC code number of 072705135004 and a lot code number of "Best By 12/25/2026 B01," the alert says.
All customers are advised to stop feeding their dog the recalled product.
Below is a map of the states where the recalled product was distributed to neighborhood pet stores regionally, according to the FDA: Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Arizona, Nevada, California, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Arkansas, Texas, Wisconsin, Illinois and in the Ontario Province of Canada.
The recall was initiated after the company received complaints about plastic contamination, the alert notes. No additional Fromm products have been impacted by the recall. "We have identified the error, and in addition to our existing safety process, we have put corrective actions in place to prevent this from happening again."
People who have purchased the recalled dog food are urged to return the product to the retailer, the alert says. Customers with additional questions may contact Fromm Family Foods via phone at 1-800-325-6331 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT weekdays or via email at [email protected].
In an email sent to Newsweek in January, the FDA said, "Most recalls in the U.S. are carried out voluntarily by the product manufacturer and when a company issues a public warning, typically via news release, to inform the public of a voluntary product recall, the FDA shares that release on our website as a public service.
"The FDA's role during a voluntary, firm-initiated, recall is to review the recall strategy, evaluate the health hazard presented by the product, monitor the recall, and as appropriate alert the public and other companies in the supply chain about the recall.
"The FDA provides public access to information on recalls by posting a listing of recalls according to their classification in the FDA Enforcement Report, including the specific action taken by the recalling company. The FDA Enforcement Report is designed to provide a public listing of products in the marketplace that are being recalled."
Additional information on recalls can be found via the FDA's Recalls, Market Withdrawals, & Safety Alerts.
