The first player from the class of 2026 to commit to Florida, four-star Jesuit quarterback Will Griffin, signed with the Gators just after 10 a.m. ET on Wednesday.

Griffin pledged his services to Florida in June of 2024, a full year before any other signee did so. As one might expect from a quarterback, he's a leader of this recruiting class. He never wavered in his commitment to Florida, even after head coach Billy Napier was relieved of his duties. He helped keep the top-20 class together.

"I'm committed, I'm not going anywhere, I'm locked in," Griffin said to Swamp247. "I'm locked in. I'm a Gator."

Griffin has the size for a quarterback and can get the ball to all three levels with some zip. His footwork is strong for his age, and he steps up in the pocket well. Accuracy is the main concern, especially deep, but he will spend time behind DJ Lagway and Tramell Jones before taking over in Gainesville.

That differs from his high school years, however. Griffin got varsity starts as a seventh grader, according to MaxPreps, and amassed nearly 12,300 passing yards at Jesuit. That is 2,400 more than Tim Tebow had at Nease.

The 247Sports composite puts Griffin at No. 223 nationally. He last appeared inside the top 200 in February and was a top-100 recruit when he committed to Florida. The composite has him at No. 14 at his position and No. 29 in the state for this cycle.

While the Top247, the site's individual ranking system, does not have him ranked nationally, Griffin is considered the No. 17 quarterback and No. 29 player in Florida from the 2026 class.

Rivals has him at No. 243 on its composite rankings (No. 16 QB, No. 34 FL). The independent rankings don't have him on the national list, but he's No. 21 among quarterbacks and No. 39 in Florida. ESPN has him at No. 123 nationally (No. 6 PRO QB, No. 19 FL).

Recruiting Summary

Andrew Ivins, 247Sports Director of Scouting

"Physically-gifted quarterback with ready-to-play bulk that can beat coverages at all three levels, but one that has to get more consistent. Owns plenty of game experience and enters his senior season with 46 career starts under his belt after getting varsity snaps as an eighth grader. Has shown the ability to play from a structured environment in a single-back spread attack, but has also proven to be a slick mover both in and outside the pocket that can escape pressure and extend plays.

"Does an excellent job at this stage of climbing and stepping into throws as he can rip darts on tight lines to short and intermediate targets. However, can struggle for stretches with his ball placement, especially on the deep shots, which in turn leads to stalled drives. More than capable of supplementing a run game with his power and quickness, but isn’t the type of signal caller that’s just looking to tuck it and run it.

"Has some developmental upside given the total package (compact release, large features, sack avoidance), but is likely going to need some time to adjust to the speed of the college game as he learns how to read complex defenses while limiting bad decisions.

"Overall, should be viewed as a potential multi-year starter at the Power Four level that’s always going to be attractive to Sunday evaluators because of his size, natural arm strength and athletic movement patterns."
