The loss dropped the Chiefs to 6-6. They're now 10th in the AFC before getting ready to host the Houston Texans on Sunday night. The Texans have the eighth-best record in the AFC at 7-5 before playing Kansas City.

The Chiefs don't have much margin for error in its final five games of the regular season if it hopes to return to the playoffs for an 11th consecutive year.

During his news conference on Wednesday, Mahomes was asked if he and his teammates took a few days off after losing to the Cowboys or if Kansas City was trying to game plan to beat the Texans. Mahomes said he had conversations with the coaching staff on how to win games during this important stretch of the schedule.

"I mean, I'm always talk talking to coach (Andy Reid)," Mahomes said. "I mean, obviously we're in a spot in the season where you can have some time off, but you're looking ahead at how to get yourself better--to try to make a run. And I talk to all the coaches about things that I see and things that I think we can continue to get better and better at.

"At the end of the day, they're going to they're going to do what's best for us and put us in the best situation to succeed. And I'll give as much input as I can to help with that, but I trust they're going to go out there and put us in the right position."

Following Kansas City's matchup with Houston, the Chiefs will host the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 15. Kansas City will then finish the regular season by playing the Tennessee Titans, (AFC West-leading) Denver Broncos and Las Vegas Raiders.

Mahomes believes the Chiefs need to play their best in the biggest moments if they hope to make the postseason.

"I thought we've done a lot of good things, but at the same time, we made a lot of mistakes that we haven't been able to overcome," Mahomes said. "And so we got to be better and those bigger moments, not make those mistakes, and at the end of day, go prove it. You got to prove it on game day. And that's something that I believe we can do."

The Chiefs will enter Sunday night's contest having lost three of their last four contests.
