Mike Norvell and Luke Loucks are both smiling right now, as dual-sport athlete Jasen Lopez has officially signed with the Seminoles.

Lopez is a 5-foot-10, 165 pound athlete who plays for Chaminade-Madonna in Miami, FL. He’s a four-star prospect in two sports. Lopez plays wide receiver on the field, and 247Sports Composite considers him the 263rd best player in the nation (39th best WR, 35th best in FL). On the court, he’s considered the 145th best player in the nation (14th best PG, 25th best in FL).

Lopez finished his senior football season with 56 catches for 1,005 yards (17.9 average) and 11 touchdowns. For his junior season on the hardwood, in 23 contests he averaged 24.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.1 steals, and 2.1 assists per game.

Lopez originally committed to Florida State in late June over the hometown Miami Hurricanes and was considered an important victory on the trail. Loucks provided a major assist (pun intended) in pulling Lopez out of Miami’s clutches. Lopez fielded 28 other offers from around the SEC, Big Ten, and ACC.

Lopez fits the mold of past Miami slot receivers like Braxton Berrios and Xavier Restrepo. Not the biggest, fastest, or most athletic, but insanely productive and precise route-runners with high football IQ. FSU is no stranger to being tortured by Hurricane slots receivers, so hopefully Lopez gives the Canes similar fits in years to come.
