PHILADELPHIA -- It's no secret that Tyrese Maxey has carried a heavy load for the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2025-26 season. The 6-year guard out of Kentucky is averaging a league-leading 40.1 minutes per night and has thrown the team on his back on a nightly basis as they one again deal with injuries up and down the roster.

Maxey has responded in a huge way averaging 32.5 points, 7.5 assists, and 4.8 rebounds while shooting 47% from the floor and 38.7% from deep. He has done so while being at the top of opposing teams' scouting reports and being a guy who gets blitzed as soon as he crosses half-court.

When Maxey is off the court, the Sixers have struggled to find consistent offense. However, Jared McCain be the key to all of that as he continues to round into form after such a long layoff due to injury.

"Absolutely," coach Nick Nurse explained. "I think, listen, I think that’s where we’re trying to get to, right? I think that we know McCain can provide some scoring load help. I think VJ (Edgecombe) should—he’s gonna learn his way to provide some scoring load help, and again, I think there’s some other guys that I believe they can do some things to score and they just need some experiences in doing it, right?"

After a slow start, which included a stint in the G League, McCain is now shooting 37.5% from deep. The second-year guard is continuing to round into form and that is something the Sixers will continue to look into as time moves on. Maxey has been somebody constantly in his ear to be aggressive and get back to who he was as a rookie.

Nurse and the staff, overall, are looking for multiple players to step up and produce in the non-Maxey minutes, but generally, they have the same sentiment with McCain. It showed in the second quarter of Tuesday's win over the Washington Wizards when the Sixers built their lead.

"It would be nice to run a bunch of different stuff and keep the ball moving and see where the ball sprays and I thought that’s kinda what happened in the second," Nurse finished. "We had a bunch of different guys taking shots. A bunch of different guys taking drives and that’s what we’re trying to do to get those guys going a little bit."

The Sixers will take on the Golden State Warriors on Thursday to kick off a back-to-back.
