According to an official statement shared by Miss Universe Thailand and Miss Grand International, "Mr. Nawat Itsaragrisil has formally filed a criminal complaint against Ms. Fatima Bosch Fernandez in Thailand on 12 November 2025."
The complaint centers on Bosch's public accounts of a now infamous confrontation during pageant week in Bangkok, and it puts the global beauty industry under an even harsher spotlight. The episode was also streamed live on Facebook.

Nawat is a well-known Thai businessman and pageant figure. He is president of Miss Grand International and served as chairman or president of the host committee for the 74th Miss Universe competition held in Bangkok this year.
During a pre-pageant event on November 4, he confronted then Miss Mexico, Fatima Bosch, in front of other contestants and cameras, accusing her of not posting enough promotional content about Thailand. Video of the exchange shows Bosch visibly upset as he scolds her and orders security to remove her from the room, prompting a walkout by several contestants and public condemnation from Miss Universe president Raúl Rocha, who is now facing serious charges in Mexico.
In the days that followed, Bosch told media that he had called her "dumb" and said she felt humiliated and scared, framing her reaction as a stand for dignity and respect.

Nawat's new complaint tries to flips that narrative.
In a detailed statement published via Miss Universe Thailand and repeated in several outlets, his camp insists he never used the word "dumbhead" or "dumb." Instead, they say he used the word "damage" in a clumsy sentence aimed at warning Bosch about consequences with her national director, something they claim is backed by audio recordings.
The statement accuses Bosch of walking out and then making "false accusations" in front of the media, and of continuing to "misrepresent the incident" and "repeatedly defame Mr. Nawat across various media channels" even after becoming Miss Universe. It warns that if "any further defamatory actions are discovered, additional legal action will be taken to the fullest extent of the law."
As of now, Bosch has not publicly responded specifically to the criminal complaint. In a recent interview with ABC's Nightline, she defended her win against rigging rumors and reiterated that she stood up to what she saw as humiliation, saying that her dignity mattered more than any crown.
What does a criminal complaint in Thailand mean?
This is not just a PR slap on the wrist. In Thailand, defamation is a criminal offense under Sections 326 to 328 of the Penal Code. A person found guilty can face up to two years in prison and fines of up to 200,000 baht, roughly 5,500 to 6,400 US dollars, for each count.
Criminal defamation is frequently used in the country, not only in local disputes but also in cross border and high profile cases, which human rights groups say can have a chilling effect on free speech.
In this case, Nawat's team says the complaint was filed with Thai authorities on November 12, less than ten days after the confrontation and more than a week before Bosch was crowned Miss Universe 2025 on November 21 in Bangkok
The legal move is only the latest chapter in what some Thai and international outlets have called a "double disaster" edition of Miss Universe, with a police raid over alleged illegal gambling promotions and the Bosch–Nawat clash arriving within 48 hours of each other.
After the viral video of the confrontation, Miss Universe president Raúl Rocha announced sanctions limiting Nawat's participation in the competition, calling his behavior "public aggression" that humiliated Bosch and violated the organization's values.
Despite the turmoil, Bosch went on to win the Miss Universe 2025 crown, turning her into the first Mexican woman to take the title in this decade and a symbol of resilience for many fans who saw her as a victim of public bullying. At the same time, she became the focus of conspiracy theories about alleged vote rigging and business ties, which she has publicly rejected as a "campaign of hate."
