Gachiakuta is undeniably one of Crunchyroll's biggest success stories in 2025. Against all odds and beating all competition, the new anime series from Studio Bones has reigned as Crunchyroll's #1 most popular anime for months. All good things must come to an end, however, and it appears as though the new series has been dethroned by an old favorite.
According to the ranking website Flixpatrol, My Hero Academia has finally usurped Gachiakuta as Crunchyroll's #1 most popular anime. My Hero Academia is in its last season and is barreling headfirst into its last two episodes, giving the classic series a big advantage over the newcomer.
My Hero Academia Is Sure To Keep Crunchyroll's Top Spot For a Little While

My Hero Academia's last episode is set to air on December 13th, so it's safe to say that the series will hold onto Crunchyroll's top spot until at least the new year.
Of course, My Hero Academia has everything going for it. My Hero Academia's anime began in 2016 and has been a monumental hit. The series is big enough that it's received four movies and even a spinoff anime that some call better than the mainline My Hero Academia anime.
Given the sheer size of the franchise, it should come as little surprise that the main My Hero Academia anime's ending would turn fans out in droves.
Sorry Gachiakuta, But My Hero Academia Deserves 2025's Top Anime Spot

While My Hero Academia obviously has legacy on its side, that's not the only thing that is helping propel it into Crunchyroll's top spot.
The ending of something as big as My Hero Academia can make it a true spectacle like no other. Almost a decade of storytelling is finally coming to fruition with My Hero Academia's last season.
Seeing plotlines like Deku and Shigaraki's relationship or the Todoroki family drama play out and get a conclusion is incredibly satisfying and provides the kind of emotional resonance that is difficult to replicate outside of long-term storytelling.
This is truly why My Hero Academia's final season is attracting so many viewers. It's not just that the series is ending; it's that My Hero Academia is giving fans a satisfying ending.
Still, none of that is to denigrate Gachiakuta. Gachiakuta spent months as Crunchyroll's top anime, and that's seriously impressive for an entirely new series.
The old guard of shonen is on its way out with My Hero Academia. While it may enjoy its time now as Crunchyroll's top anime, Gachiakuta will certainly regain that position one day.
