In an Early Signing Day appearance on Longhorn Network, Texas Longhorns general manager Brandon Harris revealed that the 2026 recruiting class for Texas may not be as close to completion as previously believed with 23 signees by early Wednesday afternoon and a pending decision from Petal (Miss.) defensive tackle Corey Wells, a current commit, before offering insight into the class.

“We’ve a got a couple more guys that are set to announce and then we may have a couple more surprises as we end the rest of the week,” Harris said.

The former LSU and North Carolina quarterback, who joined Tom Herman’s staff as a quality control coach almost seven years ago, may not have been aware that consensus five-star edge Richard Wesley had officially delivered his financial aid agreement to Texas, but it was an intriguing tease nonetheless.

With offensive tackle Brysten Martinez and defensive tackle Richard Anderson both sticking with LSU on Early Signing Day, that greatly reduced the number of targets still left on the board, but three-star Fort Bend Travis cornerback Josiah Vilmael plans to announce on Friday and four-star Michigan wide receiver pledge Zion Robinson, a Mansfield product, holds a Texas offer and is putting off signing “until further notice.”

Last year, when the Longhorns were able to make a late move in the early signing period by landing No. 2 defensive lineman Justus Terry, it was in part because there was NIL money still available after signing the rest of the 2025 recruiting class.

In a potentially similar vein, No. 6 defensive tackle Deuce Geralds, who holds a Texas offer, has delayed his signing until Friday, though there isn’t any indication that the Longhorns are a strong contender for the Georgia product. But with four-star defensive tackle Vodney Cleveland flipping from Texas to North Carolina on Wednesday, there is certainly money available to land another defensive tackle, a pool that could get larger if Wells lands at Auburn.

So stay tuned — there could be some fireworks later this week.
