The new Predator movie that hit theaters a few weeks ago has been performing well at the box office, but it still trails one of the recent hits from a rival franchise. After three full weekends and a few days in theaters, Predator: Badlands has earned roughly $174 million at the box office, with around $85 million coming from domestic earnings and $89 million from international territories. While $174 million certainly isn’t anything to scoff at, this is still less than half the $350 million grossed by Alien: Romulus, which is widely viewed as the most underrated Alien movie ever made.

The Predator and Alien franchises are forever tied together with several Alien vs. Predator movies, and fans remain hopeful that another one may be coming down the pipe. Both directors, Dan Trachtenberg and Fede Alvarez, have expressed interest in working on a Predator vs. Alien movie, but there are plenty of moving parts that need to come together for something like this to happen. The Prey franchise is already setting up an interweaving story between Prey, Killer of Killers, and Predator: Badlands, but it’s unclear at this time how it’s going to continue. These conversations are certainly happening behind the scenes, though.

Predator: Balands has been a hit among critics and audiences, enough to earn Certified Fresh and Verified Hot scores of 86% from critics and 95% from audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. The film stars Elle Fanning and Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, and it follows a young Predator who is cast out from his clan and finds an unlikely ally on his journey to find the ultimate opponent. The film is currently only available in theaters and is not on streaming.

'Predator: Badlands' Is One of 20th Century’s Biggest Movies Ever

Predator: Badlands is already the fifth-highest-grossing movie of all time for 20th Century Studios, and it’s poised to rise even further in the ranks if it can earn another $20 million. The next target on its list is the aforementioned Alien: Romulus, which is at $105 million to Badlands’ $85 million at the domestic box office. To reach the top five, Predator: Badlands passed The Call of the Wild, the 2020 thriller starring Harrison Ford. Predator: Badlands is also on its way to becoming one of the top 100 highest-grossing sci-fi movies ever, if it can move up 35 spots.

Stay tuned to Collider for more box office updates and coverage of Predator: Badlands.
