The sands of Arrakis are shifting once again — and audiences are clearly gearing up. Dune: Part Two has surged back into the Top 20 on HBO Max, just as momentum heats up for Dune: Part Three. The renewed streaming interest isn’t surprising. Rebecca Ferguson’s electrifying presence in the franchise and Denis Villeneuve’s world-building continue to pull viewers back into the dunes while the next chapter quietly prepares for launch. And now we’ve learned the next installment is closer than anyone expected. At a recent event attended by Collider, Timothée Chalamet sat down with Adam Sandler to talk about their past and future projects.

During the conversation, Chalamet dropped the update everyone’s been waiting for: he has officially wrapped filming on Dune: Part Three. Production only began in early July, making this the fastest shoot of any Dune film under Villeneuve. The director previously shared the first behind-the-scenes image this summer, signaling that cameras were rolling — but no one expected them to roll this efficiently. As of now, Dune: Part Three is slated for release on December 18, 2026. That’s the same day Marvel is currently holding for Avengers: Doomsday, and while it’s nearly impossible to imagine studios letting both projects collide, the date clash has fans buzzing.

Chalamet is back as Paul Atreides, now stepping fully into his role as a reluctant messiah. Ferguson returns as Lady Jessica, whose arc in Part Two shifted dramatically as she embraced a more mystical, unsettling Bene Gesserit presence. Zendaya is back as Chani, Florence Pugh returns as Princess Irulan, and Jason Momoa will reprise his fan-favorite role as Duncan Idaho after appearing briefly in Part Two. The cast is also expanding. Robert Pattinson is joining the franchise, and Anya Taylor-Joy — who made a surprise appearance in Part Two — is expected to take on a larger role in the third film.

How Good Is 'Dune: Part Two'?

Collider's Therese Lacson gave the film an 8/10 in her review, hailing Villeneuve's "masterful" direction and the technical achievements. She wrote:

"As the movie draws to a close, it would be hard to say that there's any true tone of finality in Part Two. Instead, the sense is that this is merely the end of the beginning of Paul's story. It feels like a prequel — one where we, as the audience, should already know where Paul ends up. Villeneuve has set up a lot and I left Dune: Part Two excited for more of this story, especially with surprising cameos that hint at a fantastic future. I’ve criticized a lot of this movie, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a joy to watch on screen. Villeneuve has achieved the impossible, and I’m sure he’s converted many people into becoming Dune fans. But, I can't help but think that this is how I felt in 2021 when I first saw Part One. Will Dune: Part Two become a pivotal part of a movie franchise or a harbinger of worse things to come?"

Dune: Part Two is on HBO Max now. Stay tuned at Collider for more updates on Dune: Part 3.
