After opening with over $40 million in domestic revenue and finishing first in the domestic ranks two weeks ago, Predator: Badlands dropped to third in its second week and managed to maintain that position in the most recent weekend rankings, despite the arrival of the all-conquering Wicked: For Good. The latest installment in the Predator franchise is directed by Dan Trachtenberg, following on from his previous work in the franchise: Prey and Predator: Killer of Killers. After producing another solid weekend both in the U.S. and internationally, Predator: Badlands has hit one of its most impressive milestones yet.
Officially, Predator: Badlands is now the fifth-highest-grossing movie in the brief but impactful history of 20th Century Studios, with $138 million in the bank. In just five years, the division of Disney has produced 24 movies, including one of the highest-grossing titles of all time. Predator: Badlands took fifth spot by overtaking 2022's Death on the Nile, Kenneth Branagh's adaptation of the Agatha Christie story. Next in the Predator's sights is fourth-placed Free Guy, although the Ryan Reynolds-led movie currently has more than double Badlands' global revenue. In third on the list is Alien: Romulus, with second place held by 2024's Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, and at the top of the charts by quite some distance, with over $2 billion in global revenue, Avatar: The Way of Water. For those yet to catch Predator: Badlands, here's a look at the film's synopsis:
"Predator: Badlands, which stars Elle Fanning and Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi, is set in the future on a remote planet, where a young Predator (Schuster-Koloamatangi), outcast from his clan, finds an unlikely ally in Thia (Fanning) and embarks on a treacherous journey in search of the ultimate adversary."
'Predator: Badlands' Boasts an Impressive Rotten Tomatoes Score
The latest installment in one of the best action/horror franchises is an unquestionable hit with both critics and audiences. On review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the film boasts an impressive 86% from the former and a huge 95% from the latter. The critics' consensus on the site reads, "Director Dan Trachtenberg continues to take the Predator franchise in exciting new directions with Badlands, a rollicking adventure that transforms one of cinema's most iconic brutes into a hero worth rooting for." The consensus from audiences reads, "While some purists may miss the primal intensity of the original R-rated classic, Badlands adds surprising layers to Dek, the new Predator, and sets up an exciting future for the iconic franchise."
Predator: Badlands is available to watch in theaters now. Stay tuned to Collider for more box office updates.
