The Minnesota Vikings haven't had the best run of quarterback play.

J.J. McCarthy had a nightmare Week 12, then was concussed. His replacement in Week 13, Max Brosmer, might've been even worse.

But with McCarthy getting healthier, the Vikings decided to get rid of a quarterback.

On Tuesday, the team announced it was cutting Desmond Ridder.

The Vikings had only signed Ridder last week to serve as QB3 behind Brosmer and John Wolford.

With McCarthy back, he takes back over the QB1 role, with Brosmer his backup and Wolford on the practice squad.

It's not a ringing endorsement of where Ridder is in his career.

Ridder has bounced around since being a legitimate starter for a season or two with the Atlanta Falcons.

At this point, he clearly isn't viewed as anything more than a depth piece, but it's been a rough fall for him.

Not that things look all that much better for the Vikings right now. They might need a new QB sooner rather than later anyway.
