HUNTINGBURG, Ind. (WEHT) — A sports photographer in Huntingburg got her big break with the NFL after being asked to film a game at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Kylie Schepers received a call she had been waiting for months last week from the NFL. A few days later, she was taking pictures for them along the sidelines for the Colts-Texans game at Lucas Oil Stadium.

“The wait has been long, but it was worth it,” says Schepers.

Schepers says sports is in her blood and spent months waiting for a call back from the NFL. Last Thursday, she got her big break.

“Knowing that I was on the sidelines of an NFL game on Sunday was a moment like, ‘holy cow I did it,’” says Schepers. “Being on the sidelines, it was intense, but a good intense. The players. I mean. they would smile at you and nod at you, and they were just super nice.”

Schepers says it was a dream come true. She says her love for photography started in 2018 when she was a high school senior, and the love continued to grow through college and beyond.

She switched her major from teaching to photography in 2021 and started a photography business a few years later. She has gained quite a following over the years, and says she would not be where she is now without the community’s support.

“There were quite a few people who knew me at the game,” says Schepers. “There was this one lady whose seat was near the field, and she was like ‘hey I’m from Dubois County and I like your photos’, and she asked me for my autograph and a picture.”

Schepers says it was not an easy road. She got a lot of no’s and finally a yes after submitting her portfolio during the league’s portfolio review in August.

She was one out of 25 people chosen for the review.

“The photographer, his name was Todd,” says Schepers. “He has been photographing the NFL for years. He was one of the guys who reviewed me. They told me at the interview they were going to be watching me, and I was like, ‘no pressure.'”

For the new and upcoming photographers, Schepers says not to give up on their dream. She says the time will come.

“Don’t be afraid to send out that email, because in the sports industry, it is about connections and your networking skills,” says Schepers. “Don’t be afraid to be a people person. You are going to get a lot of no’s, but you are going to get that yes one day.”
