After Iowa football (8-4, 6-3 Big Ten) blew out Nebraska (7-5, 5-4 Big Ten) on Friday to claim its 10th victory over the rival Cornhuskers in the past 11 seasons, the Hawkeyes have reentered the CFP rankings in the Dec. 2 reveal from the CFP committee.

According to the penultimate CFP rankings, Iowa slots in at No. 23, ahead of both North Texas (11-1) and James Madison (11-1). While the Mean Green and Dukes play in their respective conference championship games this coming weekend, Iowa will likely remain in or on the fringe of the top 25 listing when the final determining CFP rankings are announced on Dec. 7.

While Hawkeyes fans can claim this is yet another typical 8-4 regular season, the 2025-26 campaign is much different from those in the past due to the quality of the losses on their record.

Although the Hawkeyes suffered four losses on the campaign, all four defeats came by a combined 16 points. In fact, three of those losses have come against programs ranked within the top 20 of this week's CFP poll, in which their opponent had to work back against the Hawkeyes late in games.

As for how the remainder of the Big Ten fared in the Top 25, the conference has five other programs listed, including No. 1 Ohio State (12-0), No. 2 Indiana (12-0), No. 5 Oregon (11-1), No. 16 USC, and No. 19 Michigan.

With conference championship weekend looming, Hawkeyes fans will be able to sit back and enjoy the chaos unfold while they await their name to be called on Selection Sunday on Dec. 7.
