Alex Golesh has performed his second recruiting "flip" since officially becoming Auburn football's head coach.

One day after three-star tight end Demarcus Broughton backed off his pledge to USF in favor of joining Auburn football's 2026 signing class, three-star wide receiver Deshawn Spencer made a similar choice by committing to the Tigers and backing off his commitment to Duke. It is an early win for Golesh, who has made quick work of the Mobile area. Broughton plays for Mary G. Montgomery High School in Semmes, while Spencer plays for Saraland High School, just outside of Mobile.

Spencer tells Chad Simmons of Rivals that Golesh made efforts to flip him while he was at USF, and that his efforts continued after he took the Auburn job.

“They were pushing me to flip during the season,” Spencer said. “USF never gave up. The people felt very genuine at USF, especially Coach Golesh. They were always recruiting me and wanting me to visit.”

Now at Auburn, Spencer says that he is excited to play football in his home state under a great coach in Golesh.

The news of Spencer's commitment is a sigh of relief, as Auburn's 2026 class has experienced turnover since Golesh's hiring. Since Sunday, five players have backed off their Auburn pledge, headlined by five-star safety Bralan Womack, who switched his commitment from Auburn to Mississippi State.
