Collier, or "CJ" to his friends and family, is a dedicated fan of genre films - particularly science fiction, fantasy and comic book adaptations, not to mention all forms of animation animation. This stems from a close bond with his father, who introduced him to these genres via copies of X-Men comics and reruns of the original Ultraman series. Using his near-encyclopedic knowledge and bottomless love of genre, he's been able to tackle a wide variety of articles.

South Park and controversy seem to go hand in hand, as there's seemingly no target that creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone won't go after. Season 27 was no exception, delivering razor-sharp jokes focused on Donald Trump's second go at the presidency — including the reveal that Satan is pregnant with his baby. (This is not a joke. This is an actual plot point in South Park). It's the Season 27 episode "Got a Nut", however, that really pushes the envelope when it comes to a specific joke.
"Got a Nut" finds South Park Elementary teacher Mr. Mackey (voiced by Trey Parker) joining ICE after budget cuts lead to him losing his teaching job. At first, it looks like ICE is going to be the subject of vicious mockery, especially when Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem appears and literally starts using puppies as target practice. However, things take a turn into deeply uncomfortable territory when the target of one of Mackey's raids turns out to be none other than Dora the Explorer.
Dora the Explorer's Appearance on 'South Park' Leads to an Extremely Disturbing Joke

Pretty much everything about the Dora scene in "Got a Nut" is disturbing, from the fact that Mackey and his ICE team conduct a raid in broad daylight to Kristi Noem rapidly shooting someone's seeing eye dog and melting into a hideous visage that resembles Lady Cassandra from Doctor Who. The worst part of it, however, comes toward the end of the episode when Mackey visits Mar-a-Lago, Trump's private golf club. As he opens the doors, he's constantly bombarded by debauchery — leading to the moment where he discovers Dora giving an elderly man a massage.
The implications that Mar-a-Lago is being used as a brothel of sorts grows immensely more disturbing when the discussion around Jeffrey Epstein enters the picture, but it's even more disturbing to watch Dora the Explorer be given the South Park treatment. Whenever South Park mocks other shows, it at least tries to aim for other shows within its sphere, like when it viciously mocked Family Guy's over reliance on pop culture references and cameos. Even Mickey Mouse's appearance in South Park was less about scarring children and a more scathing critique of Disney's business practices. Dragging Dora into the mix feels like whatever invisible line South Park has drawn for itself has been crossed, but believe it or not, "Got a Nut" came under fire for a different reason.

The other major plotline in "Got a Nut" featured Eric Cartman butting heads with friend and occasional rival Clyde Donovan after Clyde starts his own podcast. Cartman, being Cartman, feels that Clyde is "stealing his shtick" — which only worsens when Clyde wins the "Charlie Kirk Award for Young Master Debaters." Kirk was fatally shot during one of his debate tours earlier this year, which led Comedy Central to remove the episode from syndication (though it's still available to stream on Paramount+).
In the aftermath, most of South Park's right-leaning critics were quick to blame the show for supposedly "painting a target on his back". There's just one little problem...Kirk felt it was a "badge of honor" to be mocked by the show, and even said as much when he appeared on Fox News: "We as conservatives should be able to take a joke, we shouldn’t take ourselves so seriously." Looking back at "Got a Nut" and the pair of Dora scenes, those feel far more distasteful as they veer away from black comedy into straight up misspirited territory.
In the end, Trey Parker and Matt Stone are free to put whatever jokes they want into South Park. Paramount paid them $1.5 million for the streaming rights, and it's pretty clear that they're using this as leverage to deliver some searing comedy. But they should also remember that the best comedy punches up, not down; the Dora bit feels like a bit of a downward punch.
