Saturday’s action: Back to back wins for Excelsior, Heracles finally halted

Excelsior followed up their 2-1 win over Ajax last weekend with a 1-0 home win over fellow strugglers NAC Breda. Noah Naujoks, scorer of both goals against Ajax last time out, scored the only goal of the game from the spot. The result gives Excelsior some breathing space in the fight to avoid the drop, while for NAC Breda, they currently occupy an automatic relegation spot.

Kristoffer Peterson celebrated signing a new long-term deal with the home side by grabbing his first Eredivisie goal of the season after 25 minutes. In the second half, the in form Jizz Hornkamp equalised for Heracles. who have now gone five games unbeaten in all competitions.

NEC Nijmigen followed up their victory over Feyenoord with a 3-1 home win over another side from Rotterdam. This time it was Sparta who were in town. Two goals from Koki Ogawa and one from Sami Ouaissa put the game beyond much doubt after 50 minutes Sparta did pull one back through Tobias Lauritsen, but ended up falling to their seventh defeat in the Eredivisie this season.

Sunday’s action: Feyenoord bounce back while PSV march on

There was no let up for inform PSV who won again in the Eredivisie this weekend. This time they overcame newly promoted Volendam by a score line of 3-0. Goals from Joey Veerman, Ricardo Pepi and Guus Til (again) gave the Eredivisie leaders another comfortable win as they begin to build a commanding lead at the top of the table.

Go Ahead Eagles and FC Utrecht followed up their disappointing defeats in Europe with an entertaining 2-2 draw in Deventer. Utrecht took a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Yoan Cathline and Gijivai Zechiel. One of the top performers in the Eredivisie this season, Mathis Suray, grabbed his fifth of the campaign to pull one back. The comeback was complete for Go Ahead Eagles when Richonell Margaret made it 2-2 in the 82nd minute.

Feyenoord got back on track with a 2-1 away victory over bottom of the table Telstar. Anything but three points for Robin van Persie’s side would have been a disaster, but they were helped in the first half by an own goal from Guus Offerhaus. Anis Hadji Moussa made it 2-0 just after the hour mark to give the side some breathing space, but a late Kay Tejan goal did put pressure on Feyenoord until the final whistle.
