Penn State and Pat Kraft has swung and missed — badly — as BYU’s Kalani Sitake has reportedly turned down Penn State and is staying at BYU.
Lucrative contract, increased infrastructure, blah, blah, blah — WHATEVER, this is a terrible look for Pat Kraft. To get to this point in the search, to identify Sitake, to move forward with the expectation he’s going to be the next coach, and to fumble it on a national stage — just a downright dreadful job by Pat Kraft. Like whatever your thoughts were about Sitake as a candidate and the hire is one thing. Maybe you loved it, maybe you hated. But regardless, Penn State needed to close the deal when this got out there and them not doing so is a black mark on Pat Kraft’s ability to do the job.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementWhere the Nittany Lions go from here, I have no idea. Bob Chesney is headed to UCLA. Do they try to circle back with Jeff Brohm or Brent Key? See what Brian Daboll is doing? Promote Terry Smith? It’s one thing to be the backup candidate privately, it’s another to see this unfold and then say, “Yeah, I want to be the head coach there.”
We’ll provide updates as we learn more.
