Give me a lighthearted recap
One star from Law & Order: Special Victims Unit has addressed their decreased screen time in the latest season of the beloved procedural series. Law & Order: SVU Season 27 is in full swing, and fans have noticed that there isn’t nearly as much Fin (Ice-T) in some of the newer episodes. Ice-T recently caught up with TMZ, who asked the star about his lower usage this season. “It’s just basic business,” he said. “They brought Kelli [Giddish] back and they couldn’t keep both of us, as far as budget wise.” Ice-T is referencing Kelli Giddish’s return as Amanda Rollins. She first exited the show in 2022, though has regularly appeared as a guest star before her full-time return in Season 27.
He continued, “They said, ‘Ice, we’ll have you come in and out this year.’ Everybody wanted Kelli back. We have new cops. I am not leaving the show. I am more concerned with going to Season 28. This year they said, ‘Ice’ we’re going to work you a little less.’ Everything was cool with me. I understood. I said, ‘Are you getting rid of me?’ They said, ‘No way. We can’t imagine Law and Order without you.’ I’ve been on this show for 27 years. I am not going to say anything negative about this show.”
Ice-T confirms that NBC has treated him well during his tenure as Fin, and that he has no desire to badmouth the network that he’s called home for so long. “They have taken care of me for so long. I’m trying to get to Season 28. It’s given me more time to do other things. I’ve worked on music. Don’t worry about me. I am kind of glad the fans are upset. What if I was missing and nobody cared? I will be sprinkled throughout the season.”
The Fate of ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Has Yet To Be Decided
NBC has yet to officially renew Law & Order: SVU for Season 28, but Ice-T’s comments about another season mean that it’s more than likely in the works already. Ice-T’s status remains in the air for Season 28 and potentially beyond, but with the fan backlash to his decreased screen time, it would be surprising to see NBC get rid of him altogether. The fate of Law & Order: SVU beyond Season 28 is unclear at this time, and NBC likely won’t announce anything on this front until more viewership data has had time to materialize.
