Spider-Man has received yet another epic skin in Marvel Rivals. Inspired by Marvel's original Civil War comic book event of the mid 2000s, the new Iron Spider is truly an impressive digital adaptation to behold, while also featuring one of the coolest Easter eggs in the entire game.
Featuring all kinds of costumes available for purchase for multiple heroes, Marvel Rivals' brand-new Iron Spider outfit is one of the game's rare free skins, as it can be earned by simply completing select challenges.
Featuring its own unique emotes and sprays as well, there's one element that comes with Marvel Rivals' Iron Spider that fans are absolutely loving, the best Civil War Easter egg to the original comic book storyline.
Spider-Man's New Iron Spider Skin Comes With The Perfect Civil War Homage
Inspired by 2006's Civil War #5 by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven, a collectible spray with Marvel Rivals' Iron Spider set depicts Frank Castle's Punisher holding a battered and broken Peter Parker wearing the Iron Spider costume.
Tony Stark made the red-and-gold costume for Spider-Man after Peter Parker agreed to expose his secret identity to the world, showing his support for Iron Man and the Superhuman Registration Act (inspiring 2016's Civil War movie, where Stark similarly made Peter's first official suit after he agreed to help Iron Man bring in Captain America for violating the MCU's Sokovia Accords).
However, the comics' Civil War storyline eventually saw Spider-Man struggling to justify Stark's methods and the pro-registration movement.
Deciding to take a stand and turn against Tony, Spider-Man was pursued and beaten within an inch of his life by various supervillains recruited and controlled by Stark and the Pro-Res side, only to be saved by The Punisher and taken to receive medical attention from Captain America's and his Anti-Registration faction.
As such, it's quite an incredible nod to one of Civil War's most important moments, showcasing the level of passion and dedication for the original comics on the part of Marvel Rivals' developers and artists.
Iron Spider's New Emote Is Also Proving Who's Read The Original Comics
Beyond the truly epic spray that comes with Marvel Rivals' new Iron Spider skin, there's also a wonderful emote where the suit's comic-accurate and mechanical gold arms are deployed. The arms are also shown during Spider-Man's ultimate move while wearing the skin. However, the high level of comic accuracy has been proving who is and isn't familiar with what was shown on the page.
To be fair, the MCU's Iron Spider costume that debuted in Avengers: Infinity War had four arms, while the Insomniac version of the Iron Spider costume seen in PlayStation's Spider-Man games had four arms as well. However, the original Iron Spider suit in the comics only had three mechanical arms, and the same is true with the Marvel Rivals version.
Humorously, some comments online saw some players believing that there was a "missing" fourth arm as a sort of cosmetic glitch or bug. In reality, it's just a truly peak level of comic accuracy and attention to detail on the part of Marvel Rivals' dev team, just like with the epic Punisher/Iron Spider spray.
Marvel Rivals' new Iron Spider skin is available to earn for free by completing "Elder's Chessboard" challenges.
