Heartbreak Ridge has become a worldwide streaming hit. The 1986 war movie was directed by and stars Clint Eastwood in the lead role, one of several war movies he either starred in or directed, including classics like Kelly's Heroes (1970) and Where Eagles Dare (1968), directed by Brian G. Hutton, or the critically acclaimed Flags of Our Fathers and its companion film Letters from Iwo Jima (both 2006).

Now, nearly four decades later, Heartbreak Ridge ranks 10th on HBO Max's Top 10 movies in the world for today, November 2. It ranks below The Conjuring: Last Rites in first, Wicked, Weapons, The First Purge, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, The Last Duel, Red One, Arthur the King, and The Woman in the Yard.

A Top 10 movie in 16 countries this week, all located in Latin America and the Caribbean, Heartbreak Ridge is not available on HBO Max in the United States, though it is streaming for free on Tubi.

Directed by and starring Clint Eastwood, with a script written by James Carabatsos, Heartbreak Ridge follows a tough-as-nails Marine Gunnery Sergeant who butts heads with the top brass and his ex-wife as he assumes control of an unruly platoon and whips them into shape for the American invasion of Grenada in 1983.

The film's title comes from the Battle of Heartbreak Ridge during the Korean War, in which Clint Eastwood's character won the Medal of Honor.

The cast also includes four-time Oscar nominee Marsha Mason, Everett McGill, Emmy nominee Moses Gunn, Oscar winner Eileen Heckart, Bo Svenson, Boyd Gaines, Mario Van Peebles, Vincent Irizarry, Ramón Franco, Tom Villard, Mike Gomez, Peter Koch, Richard Venture, Peter Jason, John Hostetter, and Nicholas Worth.

Heartbreak Ridge received somewhat mixed reviews from critics, resulting in a 66% Rotten Tomatoes score, as Clint Eastwood draws one of his strongest performances from himself as director and star, even if the narrative doesn't always captivate.

However, Heartbreak Ridge was a big box office success at the time of its release in 1986, making over $121 million against its $15 million budget, and now, it's become a worldwide streaming hit nearly four decades later.
