Star Trek: Discovery creator Bryan Fuller claimed that Andor had the "most important" TV episode of 2025. A few different Star Wars shows have been released this year, including Andor season 2, Star Wars: Visions season 3, Young Jedi Adventures and the end of Skeleton Crew. Andor, in particular, has been critically acclaimed and won multiple awards.
Star Wars and Star Trek may get pitted against each other, but Fuller appreciates a great story regardless of where it's coming from. In an interview with ScreenRant's Ash Crossan for Dust Bunny, the Star Trek: Discovery creator revealed he and Mads Mikkelsen decided to work on his latest film while at the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story premiere.
Fuller admitted that he loves both Rogue One and the prequel series Andor before boldly proclaiming that Andor season 2, episode 8, "Who Are You?" is the "most important episode of television this year, and probably for many years to come."
He added that he's watched this particular episode several times and cries at the "bravery" of Mon Mothma. Fuller believes it's a "crime" that actress Genevieve O'Reilly never won any awards for her performance.
ScreenRant: I love Rogue One.
Bryan Fuller: I do too! But I love Andor even more. I think episode 8 of Andor season 2 is the most important episode of television this year, and probably for many years to come. Previously, I watched it so many times and cried at just the bravery of this woman, [Mon Mothma]. It's a crime that Genevieve O'Reilly was not acknowledged with awards.
Across Andor's two-season run, O'Reilly received a handful of nominations, including at the Astra TV Awards, Dorian TV Awards and Saturn Awards.
O'Reilly played Mothma in multiple Star Wars projects, including Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (via deleted scenes), Rogue One, Ahsoka and Star Wars Rebels.
Aside from O'Reilly, the Andor cast also included Diego Luna, Kyle Soller, Adria Arjona, Stellan Skarsgård, Denise Gough, Faye Marsay, Varada Sethu and Elizabeth Dulau.
The eighth and ninth episodes of Andor season 2 dealt with the massacre on Ghorman, which involved protesters being killed by the Empire, and Mothma giving a Senate speech that took aim at Emperor Palpatine over the brutality, which she called "unprovoked genocide."
She declared that the "death of truth" ensures that evil will prevail. Losing "objective reality" is a dangerous path to explore. Mothma then called Palpatine a "monster."
That bold and powerful speech ended up making Mothma a huge target.
Both seasons of Andor have been widely praised by critics and audiences alike, with a 96% average score on Rotten Tomatoes and an 89% on the Popcornmeter. Even though the Star Wars franchise depicts fictional stories in the space opera genre, Andor tapped into important political issues, including authoritarianism, fascism, oppression and propaganda, that felt relevant in the real world.
Andor was always meant to be a two-season series, which led into the film Rogue One, which itself was a prequel to Star Wars: A New Hope. So even though the franchise is now moving on to other projects after the May 2025 series finale, fans, including Fuller, won't be forgetting about Andor anytime soon.
