Juan Soto already made this move.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementA year ago, the superstar outfielder left the New York Yankees in free agency for the crosstown New York Mets. Could Cody Bellinger do the same thing?
It's certainly an option. The Mets have limitless pockets thanks to owner Steve Cohen, and they could use a player like Bellinger in the outfield after Brandon Nimmo's departure, coupled with this past season's struggle to find competent play in center field.
The Yankees appear to want Bellinger back. The Dodgers have been named as a possible landing spot, too, and there will surely be others who are interested.

"The recent trade of Brandon Nimmo opened a spot in the Mets’ outfield, creating an opportunity for Bellinger, who proved his ability to perform in New York during his first season with the Yankees," Feinsand writes. "Bellinger would also provide first-base insurance in the event that Pete Alonso signs elsewhere."

The last couple of seasons have revitalized Bellinger's career. He fell off a cliff late in his time with the Dodgers, for whom he won an NL MVP.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementWith the Cubs in 2024, Bellinger looked to have some life left in him. Then for the Yankees in 2025, Bellinger looked as good as he had looked in four or five seasons.
That sets him up for a solid payday, and it very well could be from one of the New York teams. But which one? There'll be suspense around that.
