Table tennis star Anna Hursey continues to break records, becoming the first Welsh player to medal at the World Youth Championships.

The 19 year-old left Romania with three around her neck, becoming only the second British athlete to get on the podium in an individual event after England's Paul Drinkhall in 2008.

Hursey won the under-19 girls' doubles alongside Mia Griesel of Germany, adding to their under-21 European gold earlier this year.

She also clinched a silver in the mixed doubles alongside home favourite Iulian Chirita, and despite being top seed in the singles, had to settle for bronze after defeat by China's Qin Yuxuan in the semi-finals.

Hursey's success caps another successful season in which she became the first Welsh table tennis player to break into the world's top 50 - she is currently ranked 46th.

The Cardiff teenager first represented Wales at just 10 years old and was selected for the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games the following year - becoming the youngest competitor in the history of the event.

She won a doubles bronze medal at the Birmingham Commonwealths and became the first Welsh table tennis player to go to an Olympics at Paris 2024.

"I'm grateful to finish my last tournament of the year and my last youth championships with a bronze, silver and gold," Hursey wrote on social media, adding she would be "back soon to prepare for an even better year in 2026".
