Upgrading and automating your home doesn't have to be expensive. There are some amazing Cyber Monday deals on smart home tech right now, with heaps of smart speakers, lights, switches, and cameras from big brands under £50. These deals are likely to end at midnight tonight though, so you'll need to be quick to grab them.

One of today's best offers is the hugely popular Amazon Echo Dot for just £29.99 at Amazon (was £54.99) – a Cyber Monday discount of 45%. If you have youngsters at home, the Amazon Echo Dot Kids is also on sale for £29.99 at Amazon (was £64.99) – less than half price.

My personal favourite deal, and the one I'll be grabbing myself, is a four-pack of Philips Hue Essential White & Colour Ambiance bulbs for only £46.18 at Amazon (was £59.99). I'm testing one of these at the moment, and although it's not quite as bright as standard Hue bulbs, it's still excellent, and this pack of four is incredible value even at full price. It was £39.99 on Black Friday, but Amazon dropped the price even further for Cyber Monday.

I have some of these ingenious little devices in my own home. They're a cheap way to make any regular appliance 'smart' by using a little arm to push buttons and flick switches remotely, when triggered by a particular event, or on a schedule. This is the cheapest they've been in a while.

If you're buying a video doorbell or smart security camera, bear in mind that some features may only be accessible if you also pay a monthly or annual subscription fee. You'll still get basic functionality (such as the ability to see what's happening live through the camera) but anything more advanced (like person-detection or cloud storage) will cost extra, so factor that into your decision-making.
