The team behind Hollow Knight: Silksong say they’re not expecting to pick up the coveted Game Of The Year trophy at this year’s Game Awards.

The Game Awards 2025 take place later this month, with Hollow Knight: Silksong up against Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Donkey Kong Bananza, Hades 2, , Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 for Game Of The Year. However the team behind the hit game don’t fancy their chances of going home with the trophy.

Speaking to Bloomberg, Team Cherry co-founders Ari Gibson and William Pellen said they’d probably be “too busy” to make it to the ceremony on December 11.

“This year I think we’re safe,” explained Gibson when asked about recording an acceptance speech for GOTY. “I think Expedition 33 — it’s exceptional and broadly palatable. Whereas we’re on that knife’s edge, where it appeals to some and infuriates others.”

Speaking about the “good” reception to Silksong, Pellen said it was a “pretty different release than Hollow Knight, obviously, because so many people were playing it at once. The sheer volume of it can be a little overwhelming,” he continued. “Not even in a bad way, but there’s so much coming through at once. Whereas Hollow Knight was a slow burn.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Team Cherry confirmed it was working on Hollow Knight: Silksong DLC. “I don’t really know what else people would necessarily want to hear other than what we’re already saying. Yes, we’re continuing to work on the game, we’re pursuing the things that excite us,” said Gibson.

But it’s still early days. “We might have some vague ideas, but we’re not set. I’m not trying to downplay it, because we’re excited about what we’re making. Maybe it’s just that we don’t want to overpromise some huge thing,” he explained before admitting the studio wanted to make “other games”.

Last week, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 creative director Guillaume Broche said the hit game was never supposed to be as popular as it is. “I think we all felt the same thing. It’s going to be cool. It’s not going to be big, it’s going to be cool. And what’s happening today… nobody really understands what’s happening.”

In other news, the organisers of the Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 orchestral concert tour have teased more dates are due to be announced in the near future following plans for a UK and European run.
