Texas A&M (11-1, 7-1 SEC) will enter the week in unkonown territory after falling to rival Texas (9-3, 6-2 SEC) 27-17 during Friday's regular season-finale, as the Aggies will miss out on the SEC Championship Game for the second consecutive season, but are more than guarenteed a spot in the College Football Playoff, but will likely drop several spot ahead of Tuesday's CFP rankings reveal.

How the Selection Committee will dictate the Aggies' standing will be interesting, and the primary reason Texas A&M stayed pat at No. 3 over the past few weeks was their undefeated record and early-season road win over Notre Dame. Still, sustaining just one loss on the. A road game vs. a ranked opponent shouldn't result in a massive drop in the standings.

Two metrics used since the 12-team playoff expansion are strength of schedule and strength of record, and if this were the sole basis for positioning in this year's CFP rankings, Texas A&M should still be considered a top-4 seed.

Before the season began, many believed the Aggies would finish 7- 5, 8-4, or, at best, 9-3. However, even after surpassing expectations, which includes road wins over Notre Dame, LSU, and Missouri, it doesn't matter that only one of these teams is expected to make the College Football Playoff, as each road environment listed is considered one of the toughest in college football.

After losing to Texas, Texas A&M currently ranks No. 3 in SOR and No. 15 in SOS, and third overall below No. 1 Indiana and No. 2 Ohio State in ESPN's Resume Rankings. Again, the Aggies are a lock for the CFP, but likely need Ohio State and Georgia to win this weekend, coupled with other scenarios, to have a shot at earning a quarterfinal bye in the playoffs.
