The Atlanta Falcons have been inconsistent on offense all season long, but things hit a low point during the team's 30-0 loss to the Carolina Panthers back in Week 3. After that game, the Falcons fired wide receivers coach Ike Hilliard and later benched wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud.
McCloud was sent home from the practice facility in Week 8 and released by the team the following day without much explanation from head coach Raheem Morris. Fans never found out exactly what happened with McCloud, but many speculated it had something to do with Hilliard's firing.

Following the team's 27-24 loss to the New York Jets, the veteran wide receiver shared a fan's social media post claiming that Morris had "lost the team" when he fired Hilliard and released McCloud.

"I wouldn't say it is a disciplinary thing," Morris told reporters after sending McCloud home back in Week 8. "More a football thing with something we have to get straightened out."
McCloud played a key role in Zac Robinson's offense last season, finishing with a career-high 62 catches for 626 receiving yards and one touchdown as the team's starting slot receiver. However, he recorded just six catches for 64 receiving yards in four games with the Falcons in 2025.
