Dre’Mont Jones responds to league fine with a reasonable explanation

Ahead of the trade deadline, the Baltimore Ravens addressed one of their top needs by adding edge rusher Dre'Mont Jones from the Tennessee Titans. A conditional fifth-round pick was the bounty.

Sometimes we don't need to mull things over for an extended period. That decision seemed wise at the time. It looks even better now. Come on. Who's getting a better player than that in Round 5?

He spent most of his first appearance (Week 10) finding his footing, notching two QB hits on 39 snaps. He looked a little better in Week 11. He earned his first 1.5 sacks in Week 12.

The NFL's watchful eye is constantly scanning pro football's landscape; however, while Ravens enthusiasts celebrated the new guy's best game since joining his new club, league offices found fault with the way he celebrated Baltimore's victory.

By now, you have heard the news. With Christmas approaching, Jones was kicked off Santa's list. The league fined him $14,055 for unsportsmanlike conduct after he initiated a 'violent gesture'. On Saturday, he offered his response.

While some will find fault with his comment about being unable to buy his children Christmas gifts, we completely understand where he's coming from. Pro football considers his gesture a 'throat slash'. Most of the rest of us have performed the same gesture, one that could express anything from a lack of interest to 'knock it off' to 'I'm over this conversation'.

All is forgiven on this end. You feel bad for Jones taking a financial hit because of a misunderstanding, but his reputation certainly shouldn't take any unnecessary hits for this.
