The Cleveland Browns lost to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday in what was quarterback Shedeur Sanders' second start.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe Browns kept it close for much of the game but simply couldn't get over the hump offensively to actually pull ahead and take the lead.
Sanders wasn't as good as he was last week, but he did complete 16-of-25 passes for 149 yards and one touchdown to no picks. He also had one carry for six yards.
After the game, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski announced that Sanders will remain the starter in Week 14.
"Browns' Stefanski said Shedeur Sanders will start next week against the Titans at home," Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reported.
Zero surprise here. After all, Sanders has clearly outplayed Dillon Gabriel, who was just not good over his six starts this season.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementPrior to the game, it was reported that the Browns are keen on allowing Sanders to be the starter for the rest of the season, which makes sense because the Browns must know for sure if Sanders is the guy or not.
It's already pretty clear that Gabriel is not the guy for the Browns, and Cleveland has basically confirmed that by not reinserting Gabriel into the lineup after he recovered from his concussion.
Sanders now has a golden opportunity to cement himself as the long-term solution for Cleveland the rest of this season. If he can, it'll be huge for the Browns, who wouldn't have to spend an early draft pick on a quarterback in 2026.
