By James BrizuelaShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberThe Ole Miss Rebels are making headlines as head coach Lane Kiffin has officially announced his departure. He will be taking over the head coaching job with LSU. Naturally, this has led to many reports about who the Rebels will bring in to replace him.
Oddly enough, one shocking person named in a "report" is Eli Manning, a Rebels legend. The fan-favorite former NFL quarterback has now responded to the report.
Manning played for Ole Miss from 1999 to 2003. During his time with the program, he secured multiple awards such as the Jonny Unitas Golden Arm Award in 2003, the SEC Offensive Player of the Year award in 2003, and First-team All-SEC in 2003.
Manning left Ole Miss with 10,119 yards, 81 touchdowns, and 35 interceptions. His performance in college led to his being drafted No. 1 overall in the 2004 NFL Draft.
Clearly, Manning is an Ole Miss legend, and his No. 10 jersey was retired by the school. Though it would be a huge development that he would end up the school's next head coach, he hilariously responded to a fake report that he is in line for the job.

274 Sport, which is the parody account for the official 257 Sports page posted that Manning would be the next head coach for Ole Miss if Kiffin decided to take the LSU job.
"JUST IN: Ole Miss has announced that if Lane Kiffin departs for LSU, former Rebels QB and NFL legend Eli Manning will take over as head coach. According to multiple reports, the university has already outlined the transition plan and would move quickly to elevate Manning into the role," the post from 274 reads.
Considering Manning is one of the most hilarious analysts in football, he decided to share the bogus report and respond to the idea of him being a head coach.
"'Coach Manning' has a nice ring to it," Manning responded with.
It is not often that sports figures respond to fake reports, but Manning could not pass up an opportunity to respond to such a crazy idea. Though it would be incredible to see him transition into coaching, that is likely never going to be the case.
Either way, at least Manning can laugh at such a report.
