JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Before Saturday’s matchup against Central Arkansas, ETSU men’s basketball took time to honor former buccaneer head coach Alan LeForce.
LeForce stood at the helm of the Buccaneers from 1990–1996. During his six seasons with ETSU, LeForce led his team to two Southern Conference regular season and tournament titles as well as the Bucs’ 1992 upset over No. 3 seed Arizona in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

“I feel like I’m home again,” LeForce said. “This place was so great. All the people, the university, the players, we were all together. It makes me want to cry seeing all those kids. They’re like my family. They’re like my children. I coached for 57 years. This one of the greatest experiences I’ve ever had.”
Adding to the significance of the ceremony, Central Arkansas’s head coach John Shulman is a Johnson City native and former ETSU assistant coach from 1990–1996. Shulman coached under LeForce throughout his entire Buccaneer tenure and was able to share in the celebration.
