After having faced Arsenal FC in the Champions League, they will face Union Berlin in the DFB-Pokal, high flying Stuttgart in the Bundesliga and Sporting Lisbon, 8th in the Champions league table after five matchdays. Head coach Vincent Kompany has preferred to play captain Manuel Neuer in the more obviously difficult matches, so some assumed that Jonas Urbig would play against St. Pauli, who had lost eight games in a row, before handing the starting role back to Neuer for the upcoming matches.
Kompany did not do this and instead started Neuer. Speaking after Bayern’s narrow 3-1 win over St. Pauli, he even confirmed Neuer would start in midweek against Union Berlin.

We didn’t have any discussions about a cup keeper,” he explained, as captured by @iMiaSanMia. “We’ll see when we can give Jonas minutes, both of them are aware of that. I don’t have a calendar for that, it’s about the feeling. We want to continue to push forward Jonas’ integration – and at the moment we’re happy with him.”
Urbig has only played three of 20 possible matches so far this season, mainly because Neuer was suspended for the first two Pokal matches. Unless Kompany manages to give Urbig game time soon, the spoken desire to push forward his integration will remain empty words.
