Frank Ragnow retired in the offseason, but it was announced this week that the four-time Pro Bowler was returning to the NFL.

That's no longer true.

On Saturday, the Lions announced that Ragnow failed his physical and won't be coming back.

The statement from Detroit:

"Frank Ragnow reported to our facility yesterday and went through the normal process of meetings. Unfortunately, during the routine meeting with pour medical team, Frank failed his physical. The medical exam revealed a Grade 3 hamstring strain that will keep him from participating for the remainder of the regular season. For that reason, Frank will not be rejoining the Lions. Frank has always been a team-first guy and is a true warrior. He will forever be a Lion."

The Lions are coming off a tough loss on Thanksgiving Day to the Green Bay Packers, so the impending return of Ragnow seemed to be like a great thing to look forward to.

Instead, Ragnow will head home, seemingly for good.

He could always choose to resume a comeback attempt next year, but that'll be even further from his retirement.

The Lions may have missed their chance to get Ragnow back in the lineup for a playoff push.

Detroit sits just outside an NFC Wild Card spot at the moment, and the Lions will have to figure out how to get back in the race without the expected return of Ragnow.
