A tough Thanksgiving week for the Detroit Lions got worse on Saturday.

Detroit Lions center Frank Ragnow announced on Wednesday, Nov. 26, and the news was met with joy from fans, media, and team members alike. However, less than 72 hours after that announcement, retirement is back on for Ragnow as the team announced he failed his physical on Saturday morning.

The team released a statement, saying, "Frank Ragnow reported to our facility yesterday and went through the normal process of meetings. Unfortunately, during the routine meeting with our medical team, Frank failed his physical. The medical exam revealed a Grade 3 hamstring strain that will keep him from participating for the remainder of the regular season. For that reason, Frank will not be rejoining the Lions. Frank has always been a team-first guy and is a true warrior. He will forever be a Lion."

The end of the statement suggests he will not make a comeback attempt in 2026. For the Lions, that means the center position becomes a problem for their offense as a whole. Ragnow's retirement meant the team had to make some pivots before the kickoff of the 2025 season, but they were all on short notice.

General manager Brad Holmes and head coach Dan Campbell will now have to look for a new solidifying option for their offensive line this offseason.
