So, for the second consecutive year, a defender who is soon out of contract has been heavily linked to Real Madrid. But unlike last year, said defender has a) been stinking out the gaff, and b) Real Madrid have said they don’t want him anyway (in no small part due to the aforementioned stinking out the gaff).
Anyway, after the rejection and 9th defeat in 12 matches—one in which Konate was directly responsible for at least 2 of the 4 goals—Ibou took to social media to release the following statement.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement“We have to take this moment on the chest,” said Konate. “Criticism is part of football, and we’ll fight back every time and come through this storm. In these moments, the fans matter most.
“The ones who stand with us in the good times and the bad – the ones who sing for us even in the difficult moments!
“Your voice and your support mean everything to us. We know we need to improve and we’ll keep fighting for you. Always.”
That’s all well and good. I’m sure he would’ve rejected Real Madrid’s advances anyway.
Of course, Konate and pretty much everyone else except for Dominik Szoboszlai haven’t really given the supporters much to get behind.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementFor example, there was a point on Wednesday night when Liverpool could’ve dug in after equalizing, ensuring that their losing streak, at the very least, came to an end. Fighting for a draw against PSV at home isn’t necessarily glorious, but it’s a whole lot better than losing your heads (again) and shipping 3 more unanswered goals. I’m sure the Anfield faithful would’ve actually gotten behind showing some grit after the last two months of unrelenting shitshow.
Anyway, maybe Liverpool can pay Real Madrid to take Konate? Just thinking outside of the box here. Sure, that would leave us with only one fit senior defender, but maybe Isak can try his hand at it, since he’s not scoring anyway and we splashed all that cash for him? Again, just thinking outside the box.
