BRENTWOOD — It was a season that won't be forgotten at Southwind.

Southwind's 2025 TSSAA football season came to a close on Nov. 28 as the Jaguars (13-1) suffered their first loss of the season in the Class 6A state semifinals, falling 28-25 to unbeaten Ravenwood.

But despite ending the season one game short from a first ever TSSAA state championship game appearance, it was still a program-defining campaign, led by one of the top playmakers in Tennessee high school football this season.

Jaguars QB Kelvin Perkins was named a finalist for the Tennessee Titans Mr. Football award on Nov. 25 and entered the semifinal matchup against the Raptors with 2,701 passing yards, 40 touchdowns and three interceptions, while also rushing for 1,193 yards and 25 touchdowns.

Perkins, a 2023 Mr. Football winner, did his best to lift the Jaguars into unprecedented territory in the playoffs, passing for two touchdowns and rushing for an additional two TDs to keep Southwind on Ravenwood's heels down the stretch.

Perkins' dominance on the field this season led Southwind to heights few expected entering the campaign, its first in Class 6A. The Jaguars had spent the previous 10 seasons competing in Class 5A and last season fell in the second round to Beech.

Prior to the game against Ravenwood, Southwind hadn't trailed at halftime all season and hadn't had a one-score game since a 48-42 win over Briarcrest Christian on Sept. 25. The Jaguars won the Region 8-6A title, its first ever region title in the classification and first overall since 2023.
