Indiana football beats Purdue, advances to the Big Ten Championship game

Indiana football beat rival Purdue 56-3 on a frigid Friday night at Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette, notching a second consecutive blowout victory in the series.

The Hoosiers retain possession of the Old Oaken Bucket trophy for another season, move to 12-0 on the season and earn a program-first bid to the Big Ten Football Championship game, set to be played December 6 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. Indiana has never gone 12-0 in a season before, with last season’s 11-1 finish being the previous highest win total in program history.

It’ll be the Hoosiers’ first shot at a Big Ten title since 1967. Indiana has two conference titles in its history, winning the aforementioned 1967 championship and in 1945 before that.

Indiana’s opponent in the game depends on the results of Saturday’s slate of rivalry games, with multiple scenarios at play that could match the Hoosiers up against one of Ohio State, Oregon or Michigan.
