Are the No. 13/SN No. 10 Carrollton [GA] Trojans starting to make their own case to enter the national championship picture?

Or will they be exposed Friday night in The Sporting News High School Football Game of the Week against the No. 2/SN No. 2 Grayson [Loganville, GA] Rams?

We're about to find out Friday night as the Trojans have clawed their way into the fringe of that conversation, moving up from No. 20 to No. 10 in The Sporting News High School Football Top 25 the past two weeks. Grayson is in position with a win to move into the No. 1 position, and they are the only team at the moment that truly controls its own destiny in the national title race.

But a win for Carrollton would rock the national scene, and the Trojans would still possibly have a date against the current No. 5 Buford [GA] Wolves who could be ranked even higher in two weeks. If Carrollton also beat Buford in Georgia's GHSA Class 6A state championship game, then you'd have account for what would suddenly be two Top 5 wins on Carrollton's resume.

Seven teams remain in the hunt for the title of The Sporting News High School Football National Champions, and all but one of them are in action again this week as the playoffs roll on in California, Florida, Georgia, and Texas where those seven teams are located.

The nation's current No. 1 IMG Academy [Bradenton, FL] Ascenders are in 'wait-and-see' mode for the next 5-6 weeks as those playoffs continue and state champions are crowned around the country. IMG Academy doesn't participate in Florida's postseason so there's no state-level titles or hardware for the Ascenders to worry about. But they can still win at least a share of a national title if they can hold onto the No. 1 position in the ESPN rankings and here in The Sporting News High School Football Top 25.

That will depend on what happens in the coming weeks in the Class 6A ranks in Georgia and Texas along with California's Southern Section Division 1 playoffs. We'll be updating all the action, and these are the biggest games in SN's National Week 15 below.
