EAST RUTHERFORD − Old Tappan's reign atop Group 3 ended Nov. 28, along with North Jersey's longest active win streak.
The Golden Knights (12-1) fell to Cedar Creek, 34-7, in the Group 3 state championship game at MetLife Stadium, suffering their first loss in 18 games.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementTheir last defeat came 399 days earlier, a 27-21 loss to Pascack Valley on Oct. 24, 2024. The win streak included the Group 3 state title a year ago.
Zach Miceli, had been one of North Jersey's most efficient passers throughout the 2025 season, threw a career-high three interceptions, including one on Old Tappan's opening drive.
Old Tappan trailed 14-0 at halftime and allowed an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown to open the third quarter and fall into a 20-0 hole.
Christakis Nicolaou returned the ensuing kickoff 48 yards and placed the Golden Knights at the Cedar Creek 35-yard line. Three plays later, Nicolaou hauled in a 21-yard touchdown pass from Miceli for Old Tappan's sole touchdown.
