Lane Kiffin confronts reporter post Egg Bowl win

Well, it looks like pushing Lane Kiffin’s buttons the last week or so led to some unpleasantness after the Egg Bowl between the head coach and an Ole Miss reporter on the field.

Ole Miss Spirit reporter Ben Garrett who has been covering the Rebels in one capacity or another the last 15-plus years was confronted by Kiffin as he walked off the field. The two exchanged words seemingly regarding Garrett’s comments on a podcast this week.

During the podcast, Garrett likened the current situation with Kiffin’s indecisiveness for the future to a Ludacris lyric “you can’t turn a hoe into a housewife”, which Kiffin clearly took some exception to from the video.

The look on Kiffin’s face says it all. He didn’t appreciate the analogy, but he was also ready to get scrappy with a beat reporter who needled him earlier this week in his press conference. After repeated questions about his future during a mid-week press conference from Garrett, Kiffin got exasperated saying “I think that’s the third one of those questions,” and refused comment.

This video is a microcosm of what is going on with a small percentage of Ole Miss fans right now however. There’s some frustration over what is going to happen with its head coach, what is going to happen with the program, and why the hell can’t this be put aside and just enjoy an amazing season.

Now, certainly, FAR BE IT FROM THIS BLOG to say Garrett’s comments were out of sorts. I think it was meant in jest, I saw in on social media before Garrett said it, and it is really something that just has to roll off your back if you’re the head coach. Or say you didn’t realize anyone still quoted Ludacris in the year of our Lord 2025. Plenty of ways to handle it better than the “say it to my face” option.

Can we bring back the Fight Night philantrophy at the Tad Pad and have a Kiffin/Garrett headliner? Hell, take my money to see that.

Truly, truly, the Egg Bowl brings out the best in us all. What a time.
