Every Lafayette-area high school football team's goal at the start of the season is to be playing football after Thanksgiving, and for 12 area teams that goal has been accomplished.
These dozen teams represent the top eight teams in their respective divisions but that distinction isn’t enough as their sights are set on the Superdome. For at least three of them, the journey to the Dome will be cut short as they face a fellow 337 team in the quarterfinals.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementLafayette Christian hosts reiging Select Division III champs Catholic-New Iberia in a matchup of explosive powerhouses. Over in Crowley, also in the Select DIII bracket, it’ll be a rematch of district foes between No. 2 Notre Dame and No. 7 Lafayette Renaissance Charter Academy. Last time out it was the Pios coming out victorious but this go round it should be a closer finish.
In Opelousas, its another rematch from Week 10 of the regular season between run-heavy squads Westminster Christian Academy-Opelousas and St. Edmund in the Select Division IV bracket. A perfect record is on the line for the Crusaders and is also on the line for Select Division I No. 2 seed Teurlings Catholic, which hosts powerhouse John Curtis Christian.
